Karen Hancock

Karen is in her 3rd part-time year of PhD on the leisure-time activities of older people. Karen did her first two years at the OU, then transferred to Loughborough on 1 July 2018.

Like many older people. Karen can enumerate a long list of life experiences. She enjoyed a successful career as an economist in academia, consultancy and the civil service before retiring from her post as Chief Economist at the Department for Education  in 2013. She now does part-time economics consultancy. Getting her PhD after a DNF first attempt in 1979/80 is on her bucket list.

Karen lives in London, has 2 grown-up children and a cat called Rupert. She has been a runner since age 11 and has been coaching runners with Serpentine Running Club for more than 20 years. She took up cycling up mountains when she turned 60.
